Kumiko Yamada

Instructor

Kumiko began practicing yoga in 2000, exploring several styles before finding true direction under her first teacher. Though he taught vinyasa, his foundation in Ashtanga Yoga introduced her to profound connection between mind, body, and breath through dedicated asana practice. What began as personal exploration evolved over five years into a deep inner calling to guide others through yoga.

She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training and later discovered Jivamukti Yoga, earning her 800-hour Advanced Certification. Her dedication and leadership led her to serve as a program director before she spread her wings to teach in various locations. Along the way, she was fortunate to study with Tim Miller, completing both Primary and Secondary Series teacher trainings under his guidance.

Her interests continue to expand beyond movement into the subtle layers of healing. She also offers sound baths, gently inviting deep rest and harmony through the healing power of vibration.

Her ongoing studies and curiosity in complementary healing traditions continue to inform her approach. She is currently pursuing a PhD with the intention of becoming an acupuncturist and herbalist, weaving together yoga, sound, and traditional healing arts into a holistic path of practice and service.

Kumiko joined Y&Y in January 2026
