Lisa Sack is a certified Viniyoga® therapist, Āyurvedic Health Counselor (in the lineage of Vasant Lad), and Hanna Somatic Educator. She practices yoga and yoga therapy in the tradition of TKV Desikachar, as taught to her by Gary Kraftsow, founder of the American Viniyoga Institute™. Desikachar emphasized a slow, breath-centered approach to practice, adapted to the needs of the individual, as a powerful method for preparing body and mind for prāṇāyāma and meditation. Lisa completed her training as a Hanna Somatic Educator with Eleanor Criswell Hanna at the Novato Institute, and is passionate about bringing this lesser-known somatic practice to the world. She thinks of Hanna Somatic Education as “micro-mini Viniyoga,” the means by which you can become more embodied, hone your moment-to-moment awareness, and quiet your mind. Our “go-go” culture often encourages pushing, effort, and speed, yet tremendous riches of perception, consciousness, and transformation reside in small, focused, slow movements connected to our breath. When we’re able to breathe and move with ease, our mind and spirit grow spacious. Is this not the heart of yoga.
